COMEDY NINJA Film Festival Announces 2014 Slate
Festival Opens with COFFEE, KILL BOSS; Closes with BLISSFULLY UNMARRIED; Honors iconic comedic actress LIN SHAYE
LOS ANGELES, CA, April 30, 2014 — The COMEDY NINJA Film Festival is proud to announce the official lineup for their first annual comedy extravaganza. The festival was created to promote the funniest films and scripts from independent writers, directors and performers from around the globe. It will take place at the Japanese American National Museum in downtown L.A. from May 30th to June 1st, 2014. The fun-filled event will feature screenings of hilarious comedic films, stand-up comedy performances, comedy panel discussions from SAG-AFTRA’s Asian Pacific Media Committee and the world-famous comedy club Laugh Factory, rocking good-time parties and more.
Festival Director Chuck Parello states about COMEDY NINJA’s Official Selections, “We couldn’t be happier with this lineup, which was culled from submissions that poured in from every corner of the earth. We laughed a lot as we were putting this program together, and I’m sure that people who come to our festival are in for a real treat.”

OPENING NIGHT: COFFEE, KILL BOSS: Dir. Nathan Marshall
COMEDY NINJA will kickoff the festival with the L.A. premiere of filmmaker Nathan Marshall’s COFFEE, KILL BOSS. Set on the 20th floor of a monolithic corporate tower, COFFEE, KILL BOSS follows ten executives who secretly meet to sell off their company, but instead become victims of an outrageous murder scheme. The film stars Eddie Jemison, Noureen DeWulf and Oscar-nominated actor Robert Forster. COFFEE, KILL BOSS won Best Comedy Feature at the 2013 Eugene International Film Festival.
DOJO LATE FILM: LITTLE *UCKER: Dir. Michael Muscal
At 9:00pm on Friday COMEDY NINJA will present the L.A. Premiere of Michael Muscal’s horror comedy LITTLE *UCKER. The film concerns two stoner exterminators who befriend an ominous creature that must smoke marijuana constantly to quell its savage instincts. High Times Magazine described the film as “Hilarious! The marijuana movie of the year.” The film won Best Dark Comedy, Best Special Effects, Best Title, and Best “420” movie at The Pollygrind Underground Film Festival in Las Vegas.

CENTERPIECE FEATURE: HOWARD JOINS THE CLUB: Dir. Tommy James
At 7:00pm on Saturday COMEDY NINJA will present the World Premiere of director Tommy James’ wry relationship comedy HOWARD JOINS THE CLUB. The film concerns a romantic caricaturist who, after learning that the first love of his life has had a world of sexual experience before him, decides that the only way to truly understand her is to host a gathering of all her former lovers.

CLOSING FILM: BLISSFULLY UNMARRIED: Dir. Derrick Shaw
On Sunday, June 1st at 2:00pm, COMEDY NINJA will wrap their feature section up with the L.A. Premiere of Derrick Shaw’s riotous comedy BLISSFULLY UNMARRIED. The film concerns a divorced man whose conniving ex-wife from hell will stop at nothing to get her hands on his lottery winnings.

COMEDY NINJA Honors Actress Lin Shaye
An added bonus to the HI-YAH! Awards Ceremony will be when COMEDY NINJA honors iconic comedic actress Lin Shaye (THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY, KINGPIN, DUMB & DUMBER) with their COMEDY NINJA Achievement Award. The COMEDY NINJA Achievement Award celebrates those who have made outstanding achievements in Ninja Comedy. (For the uninitiated, NINJA COMEDY is a special brand of comedy that sneaks up on you and blindsides you with a Kung Fu-like kick!)
Throughout her nearly 40-year acting career, Lin Shaye has created a multitude of memorable characters for film and television. A few of her most notable roles include: Cameron Diaz’s over tanned neighbor, Magda, in THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY; Woody Harrelson’s horny landlady in KINGPIN; Mrs. Nuegeboren in DUMB & DUMBER and paranormal investigator Elise Reiner in INSIDIOUS and INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER TWO. During her lengthy and eclectic career, Lin has also has brought her special brand of talent to roles in films as diverse as A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, DETROIT ROCK CITY, THE LONG RIDERS, BREWSTER’S MILLIONS, EXTREME PREJUDICE, THE HILLSIDE STRANGLER and SNAKES ON A PLANE.
